Round and Round and Round

Out again in the AM for some road riding , ended up in a group of guys so it was nice to get to show off and talk about all the new parts. They were all in to what they saw and heard. This bike rides like a dream.Then it was off to the shop to get Sophia's bike all tuned up, she was going to ride and come out of retirement. She figured if Farve could do it so could she. Large group ride up at the proving grounds with catered food and drinks. She had a blast in the womans group and even went on to say that she wished that she would have been in a group that went faster. James had fun to in the pump track, The seed has been planted to get the training wheels off.

What does the day hold I am thinking some thing with two wheels. Go fast and have fun.

Train Spotting

Rode the 5:30 train to test out the new bike, and as the chain and cassette get to know each other better the cleaner and crisper the shifting gets. And it was already Clean. The spring rate in both the front and rear derailer is fast the shifting happens so quick it was great in the sprints and climbs. I would still like a 25 but I think that i just need to HTFU!

Done

All the parts fit and now it is a really sweet bike. First of all thanks to David at Sun Race for the chance to ride these sweet new parts. Light and smooth and from first test spot on. David P. at Thomson also gets a huge thanks for the stem and seat post, helping make the picture what it is. The bike comes in at just over 18 lb's and handles like a sharp knife. It took me a minute to get used to the shifting I kept wanting to push the brake lever, once I got over that I was happy with the set up. The button for shifting down the cluster is right there at your finger tips. This is my first time riding on 10 speed so I am getting used to using both big and small chain rings. The 12-23 I thought was going to be to small for the hills around here, so after I got home I went out and found the biggest hill that I could find and rode up it. Not a problem and the handling at 50 mph was also perfect,, all thanks to the stiff steel frame. All and all I am going to love this bike and enjoy putting on tons of miles of the next few months until the snow falls. Now if I could just get my self up to the cities to ride with Roy and his crew. So much more to come lot to ride and enjoy.

Waste

Waste of Talent I think that the CFL would have been a better place for an old man to play out his years. I think that he will get hurt with in the first few weeks. Oh well even Gretky ended up some where else.

a bike race. With the Gunnar almost done and Sophia saying that she

may come out of retirement I have stuff to do.

A big bummer I lost my Alien tool it was as old as Sophia and newly rebuilt

it must have jumped out of my Ergon Pack while up at the Proving Grounds.

Good weekend of riding not the volume that I

wanted but the work that needed to be done was.

After all the Brats and beer were consumed any riding was good riding.

I am on the fence about next weekend/ Do I drive 3+ hours to go race the sunburst race

or do I stay home and just log some miles. I have the 6 hour race here in 2 weeks then comes the 50 out in the Black Hills. I need to get this all figured out.

The Gunnar is coming along nicely, just waiting on a clamp for the front derailer, then it should be done, It is going to be a sweet ride.

A big good job to Toast for his ride this weekend at the 24/9 race, their is always next year,

Foggy Groggy

The fog was thick again this morning so i skipped out on the 5 am train. I am not of fan of the thick fog that makes me have to remove my glasses. I can't see to well with out them. I fell back asleep and dreamed about the new ceramic bearings and TI parts that will be going on the new Roadie. Oh so much fun to be had. This weekend is the annual family Brat day. Anna's whole family gets together and eats and drinks, I am going to have to put in a few extra mile to make up for it.

Harder they Come

Harder and harder to get the power back up, not sure if it is just a morning thing or what.

My goal this morning was just some quick starts and a bit of a cruz interval.

Things were moving slow,,not bad slow just not where I wanted them.

As i left the house this AM I noticed that the Garage had not been shut the night before.

With a quick inventory of bike I was happy to find that all was accounted for.

Now I love all that live in the house just shut the GOD DAM DOOR!

I hear more and more every day from people here at the shop that their bike was taken out of the garage. I don't want to be a statistic.

I did get the joy of riding behind a bike path warier this morning,

he was moving at a good pace so i sat in behind and let him do the early morning work, after about a mile he pealed off all red in the face looking like he was going to burst. He also was on his way to work, and got a good work out on the way there.

Going to be hot with lots of humidity so stay cool and drink lots of H2O.

Pea Soup

Trying to start the week off with a good bit of tempo but it was hard to get the fires going in the engine room. Good fuel for breakfast and out the door only to ride in pea soup thick scare Scooby Du fog. Ended up off the bike yesterday with family stuff to take care of, most important was getting Sophia up to camp. Gone for 6 day then she comes home and then off to Colorado to help babysit her little cousin.

This is the most excitment around my house as of late the boy has taken a shine to the diving board. Now the work starts time to get the sHoP cleaned and ready for another week <><><><><><><><><<><><>YEA<><><><><>><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Monkey on the train

5:30 train was missed by me, body said ride and brain said sleep. Been tired and rest was needed, Hard to wake for the train. In flagstaff there was late for the train , which was one of the best coffee shops in the world. Now it is friday morning and I need more coffee.

Flock of Turkeys

I like dirt, although yesterday I was riding as smooth as chunky peanut butter. May have been from a full pack. The trails here are tight at times and getting through stuff with a full pack can be hard. Lots of wild life out and about, the craziset was a 30+ turkey that took off from the high side of the BOB trail right in front of me. Bit of a freaky sight it would have hurt to run in to. Sleep has been hard to get caught up on and at times I wish I could just nap in the middle of the day. More coffee? Then it can be hard to sleep at night esp.... with the phone ringing after you are a sleep... The wheels keep spinning . The race photo is from Red Wing thanks to Smug Mug. She does a good job some real good photos can be found at her site. I got to see some photos from the start of the race so I got to see the crash that happened. Crazy I am glad that I was in front of all that crap. Can't say enough good stuff about the single track there in Red Wing. Ok off to work...

Flying lawn chair

Days of recovery should now be behind me. I am going to wake up watch a bit of the tour then take dirt to work. It is always a nice way to start the day. And I will be able to clean and detail the Spot machine. On the way home today just soft pedaling I was passed by a dude on a recombinant. Well I can't let that happen right? So I sped up neglecting my recovery duties to sit on this guys wheel. These kind of bikes blow my mind, they have to be hard to learn how to ride. We are always being asked if we sell them at the shop and people are shocked when we say no. I sat in and this guy was moving some where around 25 miles an hour on the flats through the industrial park. Reminded me of the old days on the bike path back in Breckenridge. Summer is moving along and new things are in the works. What is next?

Movement went well this week not a lot but enough to remind me what I need to do. 5:30 am is early for a group ride but do what you have to do. Lining up in Red Wing tomorrow should be nice, good single track there. The boy and I doing a overnight at Anna's folks because of Sophia's b day sleep over tonight. Maybe some more fire fly watching. Go fast today all that are racing and have fun. Should be a Spot on weekend.

Pulling my weight

Pulling the boy in my slipstream was the recovery ride that I needed today. He worked the whole time as I pulled him along the crushed lime stone. We were on the look out for turtles but saw none. James has been getting a kick out of the Tour. I had the morning off so we watched it and had a lot to talk about. Nice to see Christian doing well hope he can keep it up. Also it will be fun to see who gets popped on the rest day. Always seems like someone gets busted, maybe another one of Lances old team mates?

Meadow

Back on the bike after a much needed bit of time off. Could not have asked for more..... a good breakfast and coffee, and the Tour. The sun was out and the wind was blowing. Bike and body worked well together and now it is time to get ready for what is to come. Next is going to be a race in Red Wing MN, and long range is the Dakota 50. Prep is needed and also need to stay on track. Until then more bikes to ride and more single track to ride.

Waders

Day three off the bike, I say off because I can't get away from them. Bikes are still leaving the shop in two's and threes, and with all the rain we have had lately it has almost been like Noah getting them on the Arc. Monday we had such strong storms that they knocked down 100 + trees up at HPT. Thanks to all the people that help keep the trails clear and open. I think that the body is happy for the break but I am ready to get back on the Spot and stir up the trails. Now the rain can stop and life can get back to normal, bring on the weekend.

Lusty

The Spot is as clean as i can get it at home, I need the lust to get it back to its shine. The bike rode well yesterday it was I who did not have the gas in the tank. I have been told that I am slumping. I don't think so just need to get things back on track. Nothing on the radar until the 27th of the month. The family and I are starting the plan of going to the Dakota 50. Looks like a fun one, and it is not at elevation like the one back home. I got finally meet Brent from the Twin 6 HQ, He was racing yesterday and thanks to him for all the super cool threads. Good rain this afternoon glad that I drove, and stayed off the bike, that is so hard for me because of my OCD. Back on tomorrow and getting things back on track.

Flat

July did not start off the way that I wanted. I think that the tired bug has caught up to me. I had a rough day in the saddle yesterday, could not keep the speed up. Worked well on single track pulling guys on the first 2 laps but every time we hit the flat roads the groups behind be would take off and I could not match. By the end all I wanted to do was finish, just could not make it click. Need to rest and ride and get my duck in a row. Still a long season ahead and lot of time to get my shit together. James had his first race of the season and he loved every minute of it. As he sat on the start line making friends he stated that " I think that I am going to win". The way these races work is that they all win. He had a blast riding singletrack and making new memories. It was a good weekend now the week starts it is going to be a long one rest is key lets see if I can make it.

Humbug Hill

New header............. I like the photo, you can see the dirt on my shoulder and the missing barend. The gloves were off because I was to lazy to put them back on after the flat. I have been asked if I brake that way on propose and I have to say that is just the way I have been doing it for years not trying to flip off the camera. Need to get the bike cleaned and geared up for the Firecracker tomorrow. Not the same one that folks tackled in Breckenridge yesterday. Gearing always throws me for a loop can't decide between a 61.?? or a 58.?? gear inches, one harder one faster spin. Now to drink some beer and feel the breeze through the screen door. that was a real hard effort on Saturday. I need to get the bike back dialed in so I am ready to go on sunday, could be worse I could be back home in Breckenridge for the 50 that has to be one of the hardest one day races out there. Good luck to all of you all.

WSSSC

Another one in the books. This time I started off where i wanted to be. Just behind 2 Gary Fisher riders and a BMC rider. The pace was fast out on the ski trail on our way to the single track. As the guys off the front started to gap my plan was to just keep pushing. Picked up one or two and another guy in the lead group had the bad luck of his fork coming apart. As the second lap started I sat 5th behind the pros so I am happy with where I am just need to keep the pace up. That is when it hit a front flat. Not sure how or why but it happened. Quick change but had 7 guys pass me, wheel back in and I was off picking up rides one by one. I was using the new green bar ends to the best of their ability and things were working i was going to make it back to my og spot. That is when the second bit of shit hit and I went down on a bridge. Crashing hard and pulling off my bar end. I now have a grip that is more of a throttle moving all over the place and a sore right side. I put my head down and kept up the work. With only 1/2 a mile left i pass one more and rolled the line hands in the air with my grip in my hand. 7th place ,could not catch the last 2 that passed me but caught the other 5. Not bad had good chase just need to stay upright. The bike rode sweet and the cages kept the bottles in check and my front fork is the best out there, and thanks to Jeff for the grips I now believe in bar ends. Next year things will go better. Deep Green

Been tired can't seem to keep my eyes open at the end of the day. Had a great ride yesterday and the trails were perfect and weed free. The Bike rode as good if not better than ever. A package showed up from the Boys at Ergon so some new stuff to try out at the WSSS race. One more day till the weekend can't wait shop has been real busy and does not seem that we can keep them built and on the floor. Crazy what high gas can do.

Good ride on the dirt yesterday the

pedals were easy to turn over with the easier

gear that is on the bike. Different when you can

sit and spin as opposed to mashing.

The only thing that ended up sucking was the weeds.

The trails in some spots are over grown so I got whipped by weeds.

When I got to the shop I was covered in hives. Yea sweet,, after some drugs and breakfast

things got better.

This morning was tempo up the backside of the bluff solo and quite with

good pace and no weeds.

Not against the weeds, just when they make my flesh freak out.

Humpty hump day

With my weekend clear and no racing on the calender I can just ride and enjoy the weather. The wors this weekend is far away and I am just not into it. With that said off to the Proving Grounds and getting some dirt under my tires. Great way to start the day.

Sleepy eye

Gave the 5;30am train a try this morning . Nice weather and good views, still a mountain biker though. Not to comfortable in pace lines with guys that I don't know. So me and Nebraska rode off the front while loosing another one of the mutants. After this cup of coffee I must head back out to work. Fun Fun,, tomorrow we ride dirt at dawn or just a bit after that. Word!!!

The Cup

Sunny and a good fathers day, got to take a good recovery spin with sophia and a great Thai dinner. It feels as if summer has finally come. The race this weekend was the marque event for the wors series. Good course and fast riding, only problem was it meant that my legs are going to hurt for five laps. Race went well got 2nd in the age group and 11th in the overall. Bike rode well and the maverick fork was the shit. I have to thank all the good people that have been taking such good care of me, thanks to you all I could not do it with out your help. The season is rolling well and it is just starting. Nothing on tap for two weeks and that will be the state champ single speed race. Should be fast and very hard, need to do a good amount of work before that one comes. Go fast take chance and have fun on the the wheels.

Zappa on a bike

This here is the oldest of all of us Curran's. Doing the up hill time trail in Taos. Can't figure what is sticking out of his helmet but looks like he is going strong. Now that his kid are just an hour north of me he has the the month off to ride and go faster. Good job Big Brother.

Wet

It has been raining well not today but over the past few days it has. The major north south bike path to get from my house to work goes through a marsh. Water is rushing across this morning but it was not a big deal to get across. This afternoon was a different story even more water and I had a catfish bounce off my front wheel. Crazy.

Screen Door

So the boy and I got a new hair cut and let me say I feel much cooler as the humidity has been around. He was not sure at first but after watching dad hes was game. I found a bit of sunshine to get out and spin today. Nice tempo and 3 good climbs. With the low volume this week the legs felt great and if I had it my way I could have ridden all day. More rain as I grill some pork chops seems like it wont stop. If things go the way that they are supposed to I should be able to start building up my Gunnar that never sold. One more for me to ride, I'll take it.

Rumble

Rain and lots of it has forced the volume to be a bit lower than one would like. Work has been done but now I'll that I can do is rest and watch it rain. Another good one is coming this weekend, hoping that the air stays in the tires. It is a ski hill race which is one of my favorites. If the roads dry up I can get out on the single cross and do a bit of spinning. Stay dry!

Ale

Dirt to work a good two hours on the bike before having to work and talk bikes all day. Nice to just move through the woods on my own time with out any worries about what to do or where to be. Long day with the usual stress of the bike shop world the way to break it up is by destroying a bike frame.Got home after another hour on the bike up and over the bluff, to a package from my brother. He is the one that lives in the Republic of Toas sent up some stuff for the kids and a six pack of DALES PALE ALE,,,, good job big brother one of my fav's. Sleep comes soon after some beers and do it all over again.

Strech

I got my bike cleaned tonight and took off the 16 and put back the 19. My question is why and or how can a chain stretch so far so quick. The chain that I use for the 19 is at least a 1/2-1 inch longer. Can't wait to try the carbon belt. If it does not rain i will take some dirt to work if not a bit of road will make me smile. Legs are felling better after the race on Sunday, Wednesday night is the first race of the SMC. Can't wait to see how all the boys from the old hood finish. Hey Roy think that we can make it to the start line, then dinner at Eric's?

Auto

I drove in today for

the first time in

2 months. The rain helped the decision

I could have made it through the weather,

as I did going home yesterday but

a day off the bike will be nice.

If things dry out I'll go by dirt in the AM

and that will balance out the world.

Flat Flat Flat

The story that I was told before the race was it was fast and yes it was. The start was all elbows and even some crashing. When things settled down i was in the single track where I wanted to be. As we were flowing out of a section I heard it PPPPPiSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! A good flat change even with the bolt on skewer, which rocks. Now i am in the rear of the pack far off the rear. For the next 2 1/2 laps I fought back in to the fold was not going to hit any podiums but back in the race and what do you know same place and another flat. Now I am stretching a26er in to my rear and trying to get back on. At this point I just wanted to finish. I did finish pretty far back but I was not one of the many DNF's. Time to get some work done and get ready for the next one.

The birthday was a good time and shocked that I had the fastest time at the dirt TT. The Spot is coming in to work with me tomorrow to get ready for the weekend big gears and a bit of a wipe down. I still need the new rear wheel but not going to stress. I like my new house, makes me feel good.

A good packed weekend of everything, after a year living in a shit hole

I finally fell like I am home. The place looks great now just the final

touches like getting the old place cleaned and all of our

shit out of it. A few more days and it will all be done.

Life on Mars

I need to read my posts before I hit post. Gamer was never my strong suit. So I bought a house this morning and it was the easiest closing ever. In and out in half of one hour, so with the rest of the day all to my self it was time to ride a bike. Off to the woods under the blue bird sky. The dirt was perfect and the bike rode sweet. No one on the trails but me quite and fast a good day in the hills. Still have some work to do before the next race on June 1st but I think that I can get it done. Next big thing is the move that is less than one mile, so that is what is on tap I have some photos coming soon of the new house Plus Jimmy Rock is have his 4th birthday this weekend fun will be had. Get a grip and hold on things could get nutty!

Churned

Thanks again to rusty for the pics, I was having a lot of fun here. I took off the 20 tooth cog and went back with the 19 just a hair under 2:1 but it moves well. I have the rear wheel all the way froward in the dropouts so it can't slide if I jam on the brakes. Again I'll take a bit of weight for the smooth ride, like I said that Maverick for is like butter, that good triple creme butter. We are closing on the house in the AM and after that I am heading out to the proving grounds I have work to do and tomorrow it gets done. Now it is time for high life and dreams of the Agent Orange.

Fifteen Bucks

First things first, once I got my wheel to stop moving things went swell. I do need a bolt on and will try to acquire one here soon. We drove across the state in the rain to only get to put up our tents in the rain. And no one said that you could not buy beer after 9:00 and then could not drink it at the camp site. I thought that I was in Wisconsin! Race day things were chilly and the pre ride was the best way to warm up. Good course working the funny ski hill and then spit out on to sweet single track. The Maverick fork was butter and the NEW Spot rode like a dream. I was scared to slam on the rear brake for fear of moving the wheel into the frame but it never did. Again need to work on that. I felt good for the most part would have liked a bit more in the legs but with all that went down during the week and the long drive I think that the end results were good. I missed the third rung of the podium by a minute or so but moved in to the top twenty for the elite/expert overall. They were giving money 14 deep and I was 19. Room for improvement. The best part was at registration when I was given some medals from past races and fifteen dollars in cash from the last race. That was money!! Good weekend and I could not have done it with out all the help from all my great sponsors. More miles to spin and more time in the saddle.

What do you think some sweet stuff. Still need to get some things dialed but will get it done before the race. The big news is that Spot just bought Maverick. Not as light as it can be need some other parts but the ride home was smooth and the handling was fast.. More to come happy happy happy.. Bring on the race,, now to figure out the gearing. Oh yea the funny thing is that it is orange like that other frame.

LWH

It Has been a crazy week and a bit hard to get the work in that I like. Their have been miles mostly back and forth to work and home and some good trailer pulling. But today after a crazy day of work I took the long way home. Not that long of a ride but longer than the normal way up and over the bluff with a screaming descent down FO and then through some great valley roads. Watched the great ball of fire go down and spun the legs well. I also got to go to the eye doctor this morning and for the first time by a doctor I got my eye dilated. Whooo then i got to go to work and this shit was crazy, it was a strange morning. The good news is the new frame is on the way and as long as I all goes together the right way I should be rolling home on single track. Fingers crossed and I can't wait.

Am dirt riding yesterday,,,,was goign to post last night but was to pissed about another broken frame. So once it is all fixed there will be a sale on frame and carbon fork.. Smoking deals to come until then watch the spot.

How did you get to work today?

Single track was my way, sun coming up and the wheels

turning. The trails still had a bit of Morning Dew,

so to much speed and the magical forces of gravity pulled the bike out from under you.

Not enough and climbing would not work. Greasy like a cookie sheet, but still a great

way to arrive.

Rain to start the mothers day fun, nothing like good food and sausage to start the day. With the weather the way it was I turned it into a day off the bike. The ADD makes it hard for me so it is nice when the weather forces me. The famdamily got together for the day and the sun broke, I think the only reason that we saw the sun is because of the high winds. Take your mountain bike to work day is tomorrow so I can get it race ready for sunday. Time to register and make plans.

Got out on the local trail for the first time last night. After waiting for a good long while The boys from the shop made it to the HPT. It felt good to be ripping the local dirt, even with the big gear. Flowing trails and lots of laughs it was fun, the only bad spot is where I stabbed the back of my leg with the nose of my saddle. I will no longer make fun of guys on the sideline with a hammie. Damn it hurts, but nothing that some beer and rest can't fix. Ahhhh riding the darker wave on big wheels good clean fun. Here is a shout out for Dirty..... Good man made out to be a villain. We'll miss ya good luck in CA. Get your Giro on..

Du you Know?

Sun once again made the single speed tomfoolery so much more fun. Have not done much other than back and forth to work so I had a mission and it was good. Simple climb up the Grandad and then peek at the trails. The reward fried dough and a free cup of coffee.. I wounder if i pay for the free coffee during bike to work week if it is free for the rest of the year? After it is all done and said MTB with Tossin after dinner....Have you rode your bike yet today?
